MILLENNIUM CELEBRATIONS
in WOODMANCOTE

On Saturday 15th July 2000 I went to Woodmancote Village Hall for a "Picnic In The Park" type event which was being held to celebrate the new millennium.

The first act I saw called ACORN SOUNDS which consisted of a male drummer, a male keyboard player and a female singer. This trio performed a variety of songs which included "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" which was originally a hit for EDDISON WHITEHOUSE, and "Agadoo" which was originally a hit for BLACK LACE. My overall impression of this band was that they reminded me of a holiday camp cabaret act.

The next act was a group of local campanologists (Bell ringers to the uninitiated). Unfortunately, due to the event being outside this did not really work and you could not really pick out the tunes, such as, "Moon River" and "Portsmouth".

Next we had the TEWKESBURY TOWN BAND which was a brass band that played tunes like "The Great Escape Theme" and "Lets Face The Music (And Dance)". I enjoyed this band the most and hope I will see them again.

The next band which was called ELMO was the worst band I have ever seen as the lead singer could not sing in tune, and it even sounded like the two guitarists were playing in different keys.

After this we had the Woodmancote Pageant which was performed by THE BISHOPS CLEEVE PLAYERS. The pageant told stories of events that have happened throughout Woodmancote's history. This was actually the best performance of the evening.
